Lionsgate distributed the original. Sequel moving from Lionsgate to Universal.

Jeff Wadlow, director of cheesy biffo flick “Never Back Down” (and, at one stage, the now-cancelled “Point Break : Indo”), will take over helming duties from Matthew Vaughan.

The film would see Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse reprising their roles, with filming due to begin in August or September (getting two different start dates from sources running the story).
(Phew; at least they’ll be back)

Wadlow, who directed the dire “Cry Wolf” for Universal a few years back, got the directing job because, well, Vaughn asked him to. With Vaughn slammed with “X-Men : First Class 2″ duties, Wadlow offered to direct Vaughn’s script for the sequel to the not-very-kid-friendly actioner.Not sure how that relationship was formed but nice score for the B-movie man.

The first act of the sequel will apparently fix on Moretz’s ‘Hit-Girl’ character, in events depicted in the Vaughn-penned comic-book “Hit-Girl”, says THR.

”Kick-Ass” is a brilliant film; lots of fun, lots of action, lots of laugh, and some way-cool death sequences! (And it’s like so cool that these kids can kill heaps of people and be able to carry on their normal lives at the same time!No?)

If you didn’t see it, Imagine Quentin Tarantino doing a Marvel comic book movie and you almost get the idea of what to expect with the Jane Goldman-penned ”Kick-Ass” – effectively, it’s a bloody, bad-ass action film that’s littered with as much humour and pop-culture references as it is discarded limbs and oversized weaponry. And yeah, I really like it.
Performance-wise the movie solely belongs to up-and-comer Chloe Moretz. This girl is amazing. She’s a hoot to watch as an 11-year-old assassin – just try and stop from cheering and yahooing as the pint-sized caped wonder slices and dices her way through a room of nasty gangsters. It’s gold!

Vaughn will be missed though. His direction is vivacious, pacey, and choca-bloc with more than a few moments that’ll inevitably become highly-watched and oft-referenced cinematic moments. In fact, one of the first film’s only downfalls is a slightly languorous first-half – Vaughn saves up all the goodies for the film’s last half-hour so proceedings do tend to drag a bit in that first couple of reels. But still, he’s in a different league to Wadlow.

Underage actors choosing to make edgy movies is nothing new — from Jodie Foster and Brooke Shields to Dakota Fanning and Natalie Portman. Therefore, I don’t think they “owe” it to audiences to do only tween-friendly flicks. If an adolescent star — after guidance from her representation and (hopefully) parents — wants to film “controversial” R-rated movies, that’s their business.

Instead, audiences should be focusing their attention on the real danger, which is not with the films or the filmmakers or the eager young actresses playing these “controversial” roles — it’s with the marketers who capitalize on their popular stars to convince real-life kids that this is a movie they should check out.

I recently exchanged emails with my editor and friend Betsy Bozdech about “Hick,” and she agreed that in and of itself, the movie doesn’t pose any neon-flashing danger to the children of today. The danger is if/when a marketing director decides to sell a movie like “Hick” — however subtly — as a chance for tweens and teens to see a favorite actor in a role that’s decidedly not targeted at them.

“I agree that it’s not new — I kept thinking of ‘Lolita’ and ‘Taxi Driver’ — but I do think it’s responsible for filmmakers and studios to market movies at appropriate audiences rather than whoever might be interested,” she said.

That’s the crucial difference: “Hick” is not thematically appropriate for young teens or tweens, even if they did love Moretz in “Hugo” (or Blake Lively from “Gossip Girl” for that matter). The same goes for Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in “The Runaways.”

Nevertheless, that reasoning didn’t stop me from cringing when I heard two middle-school Twihards discuss the fact that Robert Pattinson stars in “Cosmopolis,” which debuts at the Cannes Film Festival this May. I wanted to interrupt their conversation and tell them that there was no way that Don De Lillo’s novel (adapted by David Cronenberg, no less!) was appropriate for them, even if they were Pattinson’s biggest fans. But they weren’t my daughters or nieces or friends, just two girls at the Barnes and Noble.

So what can we do? It’s not the industry’s place to censor filmmakers or force teen actors to make only PG-rated projects. As for marketers, they will do what they’re paid to do to help boost a film’s opening revenues — as abhorrent as that is when it comes to certain movies.

For parents, as Betsy points out, the answer is simple: be informed, watch trailers, read reviews, don’t say “Yes” to an evening out at the movies unless you know exactly what your teens are going to see, even if that means asking them about the movie afterward.

“In this day and age of all-the-time media and nonstop marketing, I think parents need to play a role in being aware/informed and taking the opportunity to talk about these issues and situations with their teens,” Betsy added.

“Ask questions about what makes someone a good role model and why studios might be trying to sell controversial products to kids and teens. It’s like making lemonade out of lemons; make teaching moments out of tough situations.”

Hidden Messages in Kids Movies…

The first of many Disney films that have been accused of putting subliminal sex messages into their projects. In “Mermaid,” the moment in question happens during a wedding scene, when the priest appears to get a little too excited. However, according to the animators, what viewers were seeing were actually the man’s stubby knees bending. The alleged sexual reference prompted a lawsuit against Disney that was eventually dropped.

According to Moretz, 15, her family is the reason she’s not dating anyone.

“Because of my four older brothers, it just doesn’t go down,” she says in the May issue of Seventeen. “I had a lot of friends and guys that I think are cute and stuff, but it doesn’t really work out with the family and all. My family’s a bit too big and a bit too abrasive.”

If she did have a boyfriend, however, there’s one activity that would likely be no competition.

“I probably play video games more than any guy does,” Moretz tells Seventeen. “I just got my phone back yesterday. My mom had it for like two days. I was supposed to read a book and I really wanted to play Call of Duty. It’s not like I want to go read the hot story in Cosmo. … No, I get caught playing video games.”

But she’s not all tomboy: Moretz, who also costars with Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s upcoming vampire flick Dark Shadows, said she developed quite a sisterly relationship with her Hick costar, Blake Lively.

“[Blake] wears the most amazing clothes every day of her life,” Moretz said. “I went into her closet one night when she was trying things on for an event, and she was getting dressed, and I was helping her choose what dress to wear. She had brought probably a hundred pairs of Louboutins, and she was like, ‘Try these on, try those on.’ We basically had a little shoe party!”

Coming Soon reports that Screen Gems has plans for Carrie to hit theaters on March 15, 2013. That’s not necessarily a date to scoff at since the The Hunger Games just followed a similar schedule (also with a young female lead) and it’s currently killing it in with teens at the box office. The 1974 novel was King’s fourth book, the first to actually be published, and also the first of many of King’s novels brought to the big screen. The original was directed by Brian de Palma and featured unforgettable performances from Sissy Spacek in the titular role and Piper Laurie as her scary, religious fanatic mother. It was announced just at the end of last month that Chloe Moretz is playing the role of Carrie this time around and, even though Spacek left huge shoes to fill (well, they were probably really tiny shoes but she was nominated for an Academy Award), the Let Me In and Kick-Ass actress is the perfect choice to reprise the role.

Personally, I’m not a fan of De Palma so not only am I excited to see someone else’s take on the tale, but Peirce seems almost as an inspired a choice as Moretz. Her first film, Boys Don’t Cry, was a solid debut, featuring some truly exceptional performances and I’m interested to see what she can get from the young actress who caught everyone’s attention with her turn as the precocious sister in (500) Days of Summer. Not to mention, the revenge tale of a pubescent girl with telekinetic powers seems like a project best suited for a female director. Perhaps even more important than having a woman direct The Hunger Games sequel? An issue on everyone’s mind lately.

 Remake of Stephen King’s Carrie Starring Chloe Moretz Gets Release Date

The 15-year-old who’s been spotted everywhere from the People’s Choice Awards to Milan Fashion Week to a recent Kelly Clarkson concert is making her latest appearance on the cover of Seventeen Magazine’s May 2012 issue, which hits newsstands April 17.

Chloe Moretz is making a serious bid for big-screen stardom with a handful of buzzworthy films in the works. She’s starring alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s upcoming vampire/witch/soap opera thriller Dark Shadows, playing the rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard. She’ll also be showing her dark side in an upcoming remake of the classic horror film Carrie. Chloe will be playing Carrie, the girl who turns her high school prom into a total blood bath.

But in real life — and on her Seventeen cover — Chloe is full of bubbly energy, stellar fashion sense, and smiles. Like her Hick co-star Blake Lively, Moretz has quickly established herself as a darling of the fashion world. Chloe told Seventeen:

Always the model boyfriend, Bieber said of Selena: “I’m just trying to make her happy, that’s all. I think it’s important to make all women feel like they’re princesses, because every girl is a princess. I’m serious.”

  The actress (Chloe Moretz) – who turned 15 last week – will not pick up an extra $25,000 (£15,816), because a clause in her contract reportedly states that she would only be entitled to the amount if she was nominated for an Oscar or Golden Globe for the movie.

Chloe would have made another $25,000 (£15,816) if Hugo brought in $150 to $225 million (£95 to £142 million) domestically at the box office, or $50,000 (£31,633) if its takings exceeded $250 million (£158.2 million), TMZ claims.

However, she was only paid her basic salary of $225,000 (£142,350) following reported ticket sales of $61 million (£38.6 million).

Chloe Moretz was joined by Liam Hemsworth, Glee star Harry Shum Jr, Josh Duhamel and Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr at last night’s (February 15) Sony PlayStation Vita launch in Hollywood.

She tweeted from the event about the fun she was having playing with the “insanely amazing” device and listening to celebrity DJs Pete Wentz and Jesse Marco.

Chloe recently revealed a desire to write and produce her own movies, describing herself as an “overachiever”.

Everyone loves a good video game, and Chloe Moretz was spotted at the launch of the new Sony PlayStation PS VITA in Hollywood last night (February 15).

The adorable actress looked super cute in a long black dress as she posed with super hunk Liam Hemsworth outside Siren Studios prior to the shindig.

And though “Hugo” helped Chloe reach a whole new level of success and notoriety, it seems the film didn’t really do all that well at the box office.

Ms. Moretz was paid a base salary of $225,000 with the option for up to $125,000 more if she was nominated/won a Golden Globe or Oscar, or if the film topped $250 million in sales. So far, it has only raked in $61 domestically, so no bonus for Chloe!
